Review

As a fan of comedic films, I recently stumbled upon the movie “Vegas Vacation,” and I must say, it did not disappoint. The film directed by Stephen Kessler stars Chevy Chase (Clark), Beverly D’Angelo (Ellen), and Randy Quaid (Cousin Eddie) among others. The movie follows the Griswold family as they embark on a memorable vacation in Las Vegas.

The storyline starts with Clark Griswold winning a family trip to Las Vegas after participating in a cheesy game show. The Griswolds make their way to Vegas, only to discover the city can be both exciting and exhausting. From endless buffets to risky gambling games, Clark and his family get up to all kinds of shenanigans.

What makes this movie entertaining is its ability to poke fun at the glitz and glamour of Las Vegas while still giving viewers an authentic look at what it’s like to visit Sin City. From their first night in town, Clark and Ellen indulge in too many drinks, causing them to wake up with throbbing hangovers.

Despite their struggles with alcohol, Clark becomes determined to win enough money through gambling to take his family on a dream vacation. However, luck seems not to be on his side as he loses more than he wins – including the family car! This loss pushes Clark’s gambling addiction further until his wife has had enough.

As if things could not get any worse for the Griswolds, Cousin Eddie appears on the scene, looking for money and causing chaos wherever he goes. Played brilliantly by Randy Quaid, Cousin Eddie is a lovable character that adds just enough humor without becoming annoying.

The cast does an excellent job of bringing each character’s unique personality traits out on screen. Chevy Chase showcases his masterful skills at physical comedy through Clark’s mishaps in Las Vegas. Beverly D’Angelo gives a warm performance as Ellen, the wife who is fed up with her husband’s excessive gambling. Together, they are a great team and provide a natural chemistry that makes viewers want to root for them.

In terms of cinematography, “Vegas Vacation” displays the iconic Las Vegas skyline and captures the city’s essence in all its glory. The film’s score provides a perfect complement to every scene, enhancing every moment and adding more depth to an already hilarious movie. The special effects used in the movie also add authenticity to some of the more outlandish scenes.

While it may not have won any awards or received critical acclaim, “Vegas Vacation” stands as an entertaining film that delivers what it set out to do: make its audience laugh. The film showcases great writing with witty dialogue that keeps the laughter coming. And, despite being a movie from 1997, it still retains its humor and charm to this day.

Overall, “Vegas Vacation” is an excellent choice for those looking for an enjoyable comedy film. It offers a glimpse into Las Vegas’ lifestyle while taking viewers on a heartwarming adventure with the Griswold family.

In conclusion, Dan Ariely once said that we find meaning when we connect with something larger than ourselves. “Vegas Vacation” offers just that – a laugh-out-loud comedy with a relatable storyline about family values and reining in bad habits. The film’s ability to make light of serious issues while remaining engaging makes it one of my favorite comedy films. So grab some popcorn – it’s time to take our chances in Vegas!
